Sophie was playing a game of cards with her friends at a local bar. She won the game and got a small toy stethoscope as a joke prize. She started to play with the toy, but the next moment, the toy slipped out of her hand, and her friend stepped on it by accident. It broke into pieces.

➡ winの過去形 won 発音注意 won /wʌ́n/ won the game (日本語では「～で勝つ」とか「～に勝つ」と助詞を使うので前置詞が必要と感じるかもしれませんが、I love you.と同じ文構造で大丈夫です！
➡ stethoscope 発音/stε’θəskə̀up/
➡ she started to play with the toy. the toyなので、「その」おもちゃを使って、と考えます。冠詞のtheは「その」とか「例の」を使って意味が通じる時、正しく使えていると考えましょう。
➡ the next moment 次の瞬間！
➡ the toy slipped out of her hand. そのおもちゃが彼女の手から滑り落ちた。 slip は「ツルっ」とした雰囲気を出します。 slipは動詞。slipperyは形容詞で、床などが滑りやすいことを表します。 slipしてどうなったか？ out of her hand の状態になったのです。
➡ her friend stepped on it by accident. her friend stepped on it その聴診器を踏んでしまいました。故意に？― いえ、by accident 誤って、間違って。
➡ It broke into pieces. It broke で、その聴診器が壊れたことが分かります。壊れてどうなった？― into pieces、すなわち小さなピース達になってしまったのです。バラバラになったのですね。
