A British business owner, Tim, went shopping to get Christmas gifts for his employees. He paid for them, put them in his car, and headed for the office. On the way, he got pulled over and got a speeding ticket. He didn’t realize he was driving at 90 miles per hour.
キーポイント（音声レッスンは下）
➡ A British business owner, Tim, went shopping… 発音！英語の「間」の取り方について
➡ went shopping go toという塊で覚えないようにしよう。goで一度気持ちを切り替えて「行先を述べよう！」と思って初めて toを使って場所を説明する
➡ employees 発音！ストレスは o で発音する人と ee で発音する人がいる。辞書にも両方の記載がみられる。
➡ put them in his car 車の中に「入れる」のように日本語にこだわらないように。「置く」動作はひとまずputを使って解決できることがほとんど。置いた場所を説明するなら、in his car, on the desk, in the kitchen, on the wall, behind the counter, in front of the door のように適宜使い分けよう。間違っても put in という塊で覚えないように。
➡ headed for the office headは動詞でどこかへ向かうことを表す。向かう先は？ for the officeのようにforで導く
➡ on the way 「道中」を表す。この文では、オフィスに向かている道中であることが分かるので、単に on the wayとしたが、前文のようにどこへ向かっているのかという説明がない場合は、on the way to the supermarket のようにtoを使って向かう方向（矢印感！）を出し、行先を表す。on the way to the hospital, on the way to the station, on the way home, on the way here など。
➡ he got pulled over 警官に車を止められることを I got pulled over. のように表す。暗記しよう。
➡ got a speeding ticket スピード違反の切符を切られることを I got a speeding ticket のように表す
➡ he was driving at 90 miles per hour he was driving（運転していた）。スピードを表してみよう。at 90 miles per hour （時速マイルで）という意味。perは「ごと」などと訳されることが多いが、eachという単語を知っている人は、eachと同じように理解するのもあり！
