苦手な人が多い【almost】

レッスン中に説明しない日はないのでは！？と思うほど混乱して使っている人が多い単語、almost。「私はバッチリよ～」という方も復習がてらぜひお読み下さい♪

とにもかくにも「ほとんど」という日本語で暗記することをやめると良いです。

nearly, about と考えて下さい。

「この町のほとんどの人」と言いたい時に about people in this townとか nearly people in this townと言いますか？　このようにalmostを、aboutやnearlyに置き換えると、使い方が間違っていることを理解しやすいです。

about all of the people in this town とか nearly all of the people in this town　だと正しい使い方なので、aboutとnearlyをalmostに置き換えてもOKというわけです。

✓　Mom, I need to use the restroom. – Ok, sweetheart, we are almost there. (We are nearly there.) （ママ、トイレに行きたい。－ OK、かわいこちゃん、もうすぐ着くわよ。）

✓　You look exhausted. What happened? – I work overtime almost every day now. I have a big project coming up. （疲れてるみたいね。どうしたの？－最近ほとんど毎日残業してるの。大きなプロジェクトがもうすぐ始まるんだ。）

✓　My mom and I tell each other almost everything.  We are very close. （お母さんと私はお互いに何でも話すよ。仲良しなの。）
